I got this information from Guitar Player Magazine November1998. Brain Uses four Gretsch guitars. Two orange 1959 6120s, a 1957 Silver Jet, and a 1957 Duo Jet. Brian puts Gibson ABR1 Tune-omatic bridges on all four guitars. The bridges have a rosewood base and he leaves them floating. The frets are all redone with Dunlop 6105 wire. His main 6120 and Silver Jet both have locking Sperzel tuners. He uses a D'Addario 010. set on all the Gretschs.

I have been playing a Gretsch 6120-the Chet Atkins model-for years. Its got to be a '59-same year as me. (Laughs.) I tried a '58 and it sounded too solid-like a Gibson ES-335. Nice, but not my sound. The '58s are too heavily braced; the top doesn't resonate enough. I looked inside and there's tons of block bracing. In '59, Gretsch built the 6120 with just one block and two strips of wood. And it makes a total difference. Of course , nobody would notice that except a nut like me. I recently noticed that I was starting to go through the back of my 6120 with my belt buckle, so I figured I'd better find another one. That wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. Eventually , I found two '59s and snatched them up. They were a lot louder then my first 6120 because, after 20 years of beer getting poured into its pickups and sweat getting inside the guitar it faded.
